A new chapter

The domain carlosrabelo.com has been here since 1998. Back then, having a website was an enthusiast’s thing — and I was one of those kids who spent hours soldering components and writing Assembly code.

I had a blog on this same domain a long time ago. It fell by the wayside, like so many things on the internet. But the address stayed, and so did the urge to write.

This is not the debut of a brand-new blog. It is a new chapter in a space that has always been here.

What changed

Since then, my relationship with technology has transformed. I started as an electronics hobbyist, moved into low-level programming, founded an internet service provider, and built systems for clients across many different industries. I even worked on network infrastructure and web development in the early days of the internet in Brazil.

In 2018, those days of entrepreneurship gave way to a new chapter: I joined the Brazilian federal public service at a technical school, in information technology. Not as a teacher, but as someone who believes technology can — and should — drive innovation and improvement in public education. Outside of that, I keep building programs, tools, and experiments on my own — because programming has always been more than a job.

What to expect here

This space is about technology in the broad sense. Programming, infrastructure, security, IoT, open source, educational technology, and the challenges of innovating within the public sector. But also the stories, mistakes, and lessons of someone who has lived through technology from 16 KB of memory to today’s processors.

I will share projects I build on my own, solutions I develop in day-to-day public service work, and reflections on where technology is taking us.
